Workflow Detail: Describe Current Business
The purpose of this workflow detail is to:
- Understand the current target-organization's processes and
structure.
- Based on this understanding, refine the goals of the business-modeling
effort.
The purpose is not to describe the current target-organization in detail—only
enough of it to be able to prioritize which parts of the target-organization to focus
on for the remainder of the project.
Your business-modeling team, all acting as Business-Process Analysts, invites
the stakeholder’s representatives. This extended business-modeling team needs
to cover good business domain knowledge and know how current systems are used
to automate the business. The core team members need to have good facilitation
skills.
Conduct a workshop, where the goal is to understand and outline what the
business use cases and business actors are in the current organization. The
following sample techniques can be applied to help you collect correct and
relevant information:
