Toolkit:
Verifying a Web Site
Purpose
This Toolkit page describes how to verify a Web site, for example a project
Web based on the Rational
Project Web Template, or a modified Rational Unified Process Web, to make
sure there are no broken links, that language is correct, and so forth.
Overview
- Checking the hyperlinks
- Checking the spelling
- Verifying the treebrowser
Using Microsoft FrontPage®, use the command Tools>Verify
Hyperlinks... to verify that there are no broken links left.
Other test tools can be used instead of, or as a complement to, Microsoft FrontPage.
Using Microsoft FrontPage, use the command Tools > Spelling...
to automatically check the spelling.
The treebrowser is described in the file "tree.dat" and four subtree
files referenced by the "tree.dat". These files are located in the
"applet" folder. The treebrowser can be verified automatically. For
information on how to generate a new Site Map, see Toolkit:
Preparing for Publication. This means that the Site Map will have the hyperlinks
that are defined in the "tree.dat" file and in all of its corresponding
subtree files.
- Generate a new Site Map.
- Use Microsoft FrontPage to verify the hyperlinks, View>Reports>Broken
Hyperlinks.
- Check for broken links in the files "sitemap/*.htm". If there
are any broken links in these files, it means that there are broken links
in the menu files.
